Description of Work/Type of Construction:
BE&K, in association with BRPH, was awarded a design-build contract for the design, permitting, site preparation, and construction of a C-130 aircraft hangar with supporting shop space and administrative areas.
The total area of the new building is approximately 26,000 sf and features a bay capable of enclosing one C-130 aircraft for periodic aircraft washing and maintenance. Supporting shop space includes sheet metal repair, parts/tools storage, administration, rest rooms, and utility systems. Construction of new vehicle parking and an aircraft apron in addition to demolition of the existing parking apron, adjacent vehicle parking, and a small existing structure with an associated concrete pad are also part of the project scope.
This project utilizes the efficiencies inherent to the design-build delivery process to trim time off of the government's 16-month project schedule. To expedite design, BE&K and BRPH scheduled an initial partnering session to establish coordination with several specialty consultants and employed the Dr. Checks Web-based drawing review system. The resulting design exceeds the LEED bronze rating and incorporates all relevant military and local installation design standards.
