Description of Work/Type of Construction:
This project was awarded as a Task Order under the Streamlined Construction Improvement Program (SCIP) IDIQ, by DeCA, the Defense Commissary Agency, under the Air Force's AETC. DeCA's contracting branch has been moved to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and now administers the SCIP Program through the Kansas City District.
The complete commissary renovation at Kaneohe Bay MCB was begun in late January 2007, and includes additions and alterations to the commissary while in full operation. Despite the building's occupancy during construction, the project was managed successfully per the plans and specifications, and without injury to either construction employees or patrons of the commissary.
Interior construction relates to the phased upgrading of existing refrigeration and HVAC systems and relocation of grocery departments within the building. Construction includes concrete curbs and slabs, miscellaneous structural steel framing, miscellaneous carpentry, casework and trim, doors, windows and glazing, drywall systems, floor coverings, décor components, painting, acoustical tile ceilings, specialties and equipment, plumbing, HVAC refrigeration systems, electrical power, lighting and special systems.
Exterior renovation scope includes maintenance and repair associated with the painting of doors and frames; roof maintenance and alterations to accommodate new mechanical and refrigeration equipment; and new loading dock door and seal equipment.
